Job Description
Job Description
The Geomatic Engineer delivers SKTLive’s UAV survey and geospatial work hands-on: survey control, UAV LiDAR and photogrammetric data collection
, processing, analysis and final deliverables.
To undertake land surveys, using a variety of specialist equipment and technology, such as GPS machines and total stations to define and secure the companies boundaries,
data using plans, maps, charts and software such as AutoCAD and GIS (geographic information systems) programs
Key Responsibility
- Survey planning and control
• Plan UAV missions: altitude, GSD, overlap, terrain following, flight blocks and RTK/PPK strategy.
• Establish ground control: GCPs and checkpoints observed by static multi-frequency GNSS, and base station setup.
• Confirm the coordinate reference system, datum and geoid model for each project before capture.
2. Field data capture.
• Fly UAV LiDAR and RGB missions as part of the field crew, setting scan mode, point density, IMU calibration patterns and base station logging for PPK.
• Carry out GNSS observations, topographic detail pickup and ground truthing where required.
• Follow pre-flight checklists, GCAA permits and client site HSE rules; log flights and equipment issues.
LiDAR data processing and analysis
• Process LiDAR trajectories against base station data (PPK) and check strip alignment and calibration.
• Clean and classify point clouds (ground, vegetation, buildings, noise) to client specification.
• Generate DTM/DSM, contours, spot heights and breaklines for engineering use.
• Analyse terrain: slope, drainage and flood paths, cut/fill, earthwork and stockpile volumes, sections and profiles.
• Derive vegetation metrics under canopy: canopy height models, tree heights and counts.
• Extract features such as building footprints, corridor clearances and right-of-way encroachments.
• Validate vertical accuracy against independent checkpoints and report RMSE.
. Photogrammetry and GIS analysis
• Process RGB imagery into orthomosaics and photogrammetric surfaces.
• Perform ellipsoidal-to-orthometric height conversions and coordinate transformations.
• Run GIS analyses: land-use classification, vegetation indices (NDVI/NDRE) and change detection.

Engineering and design support
• Build Civil 3D surfaces and drawings: topographic plans, grading designs, profiles and setout data.
• Support design tasks such as land levelling, drainage, field block layouts and cut/fill balance.
QA/QC and deliverables
• Check accuracy against independent checkpoints and report RMSE
. • Prepare maps, CAD files, shapefiles and WebGIS layers in the client’s formats (English and French where required).
• Write technical survey reports and periodic progress reports.
Technical input to projects and proposals
• Provide methodology, quantities and time estimates for proposals and quotations. • Join client meetings to clarify technical requirements and present results.
• Maintain organised project data archives and contribute to SOPs.
Responsibility
Hands-on UAV LiDAR collection, processing and analysis, plus photogrammetric processing, to survey-grade accuracy.
• Hands-on GNSS survey control: static, RTK and PPK workflows.
Working proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and QGIS.
• Clear technical report writing.
Competencies and attributes
• Technical rigour: knows where accuracy is lost in the chain from GNSS control to final map, and checks it.
• Attention to detail: catches errors in datums, units, layers and labels before outputs leave the desk.
• Problem-solving in the field: adapts to weather, terrain, access and equipment issues on remote sites.
• Safety discipline: treats permit, checklists and incident reporting as non-negotiable.
• Communication: writes clear reports and explains technical results to non-specialists.
• Teamwork: works well in field crews and with processing colleagues; shares knowledge openly.
• Self-management: organises own workload across several projects and meets deadlines.
• Learning mindset: picks up new sensors, software and methods quickly.
Education
BSc in Geomatic Engineering, or Surveying, Geodetic Engineering or a closely related field.
• Valid GCAA remote pilot licence, or eligibility to obtain one within 3 months.
