Electrowinning Operator

Job Description

Job Purpose

A reputable company seeks an electrowinning operator whose primary is to operate the Gold Room & Elution circuits safely at the required control parameters and to always maintain constant surveillance. The electrowinning operator will work closely with the CIL operator to ensure carbon movement is optimized to minimize gold losses.

Responsibilities

• To Operate the elution and electrowinning circuits as well as associated equipment and machinery within the section efficiently and safely to achieve the best possible results.
• Under the direction of the shift supervisor the elution & gold room operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the carbon recovery, acid washing, elution, carbon regeneration and electrowinning circuits.
• Communicate with the CIL circuit operator on the carbon status regarding carbon transfers and information on any impending shutdowns which may affect carbon transfer and elution activities.
• To report to the gold room supervisor all mechanical and electrical problems that jeopardize the safe working conditions and productivity of the entire gold room circuit.
• Comply with all company regulations and always work safely, including proper housekeeping within area of operation.
• Ensure that all routine readings, sampling and cleanup are carried out as required.
• To maintain accurate log/data sheets of all elution and gold room activities.
• To operate and monitor the circuit on a regular basis and complete log sheets with all required information.
• To monitor equipment conditions and report on any changes such as noise, spillage, gearbox temperatures, leakages etc.
• Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications, Experiences and Competences

Minimum Qualification

• WASSCE/” O” Level or relevant high school/ trade certificate
• Relevant Mineral Commission’s Certificate of Competency (desirable).

Experience

2 years working experience in a similar role in a gold processing plant, mining pit or related methodical field.

Knowledge (In Depth)

• Able to operate and /or easily acquire the skills to operate two of the major process circuits listed below:
• Acid wash 
• Carbon Regeneration
• Elution
• Smelting
• Working knowledge of processing plant equipment.
• Working knowledge of process operations, particularly crushing, SAG Ball Mill Grinding, Leach/CIL, Elution, Reagents, Gold room and tails operations.
• Operational understanding of the concepts used in running various circuits in a gold processing plant.
• Good understanding of hazard identification and mitigation and risk assessment at the workplace.
• Basic understanding of chemical handling, storage, usage, and disposal.
• Understanding basic metallurgical parameters such pressure, temperature, density, flowrate, etc., and their influence on a gold process plant.
• Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response is an added advantage.

Skills

• Ability to write minimal reports and read simple plant documents such as procedures and manuals.
• Good team playing and with good observation skills and good initiative spirit.
• A proactive individual with good initiative skills.
• Ability to operate multiple circuits in a gold processing plant with good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform activities involving repetitive motion and manually handle loads of appropriate weight.
• Ability to foster a culture of safety awareness and compliance among team members, always promoting a safe working environment
