Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
A Vulcanizer is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and restoring damaged tires for vehicles and heavy equipment using vulcanization techniques. The role involves inspecting tires for damage, performing hot or cold vulcanization repairs, replacing worn components, and ensuring tires are safe and reliable for operation. The Vulcanizer works with trucks, buses, construction machinery, and other heavy-duty vehicles to extend tire life and minimize operational downtime.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tire Inspection
- Inspect tires for punctures, cuts, cracks, bulges, and other forms of damage.
- Assess the extent of tire wear and determine whether repair or replacement is required.
- Identify causes of tire damage such as overloading, underinflation, or road hazards.
2. Tire Repair and Vulcanization
- Perform tire repairs using hot or cold vulcanization techniques.
- Patch punctured tires and repair damaged areas using appropriate materials.
- Apply rubber patches, plugs, and bonding agents to restore tire strength and durability.
- Operate vulcanizing equipment to bond rubber materials to damaged tires.
3. Tire Removal and Installation
- Remove damaged tires from vehicles or equipment using appropriate tools.
- Install repaired or replacement tires on vehicles and heavy machinery.
- Ensure proper mounting and alignment of tires on rims.
4. Tire Maintenance
- Check and adjust tire pressure to recommended levels.
- Rotate tires to promote even wear and extend tire lifespan.
- Balance tires where necessary to ensure smooth vehicle operation.
- Maintain proper tire condition for operational safety.
5. Equipment and Tool Operation
- Operate tire repair equipment such as:
- Vulcanizing machines
- Tire changers
- Air compressors
- Tire inflators
- Grinding and buffing tools
- Ensure equipment and tools are properly maintained and safe to use.
6. Safety Compliance
- Follow safety procedures when handling heavy tires and repair equipment.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety boots, and eye protection.
- Ensure proper handling of chemicals and adhesives used in vulcanization.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school certificate or vocational training in:
- Automotive Technology
- Tire Repair and Maintenance
- Mechanical or Industrial Maintenance
- Related technical field.
EXPERIENCES
1–3 years of experience in tire repair, vulcanization, or automotive maintenance.
Experience working with heavy-duty vehicle tyres, such as trucks, buses, and construction equipment, is an advantage
