STEEL BENDER

Job Description

A reputable company is seeking the services of an experienced steel bender who will be responsible for cutting, bending, shaping, and fixing steel reinforcement bars (rebars) and mesh used in construction projects such as buildings, bridges, roads, and other concrete structures. The role involves interpreting construction drawings, preparing reinforcement materials, and ensuring steel structures are installed according to engineering specifications and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Steel Preparation and Fabrication

• Measure, cut, bend, and shape reinforcement steel bars and rods according to approved drawings and specifications.
• Operate steel bending and cutting machines safely and efficiently.
• Prepare reinforcement cages, columns, beams, slabs, and other structural components.

Installation and Fixing

• Position and secure steel bars, mesh, and reinforcement frameworks in concrete forms.
• Tie reinforcement bars together using wire, clips, or welding methods where applicable.
• Ensure proper spacing, alignment, and placement of reinforcement materials before concrete pouring.

Reading and Interpretation of Drawings

• Interpret structural drawings, bar bending schedules, and engineering specifications accurately.
• Calculate material quantities and dimensions required for fabrication and installation.
• Identify discrepancies in drawings and report them to supervisors.

Inspection and Quality Control

• Inspect completed reinforcement work to ensure compliance with project standards and specifications.
• Verify measurements, spacing, overlaps, and anchorage requirements.
• Ensure all reinforcement works meet quality and safety regulations.

Safety and Compliance

• Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety procedures.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately at all times.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas to prevent accidents and hazards.

Maintenance and Equipment Handling

• Maintain and clean tools, machines, and equipment after use.
• Report faulty equipment, damaged materials, or unsafe conditions to supervisors promptly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of Senior High School education or Technical/Vocational training in construction or metal works.

Proven experience as a Steel Bender/Steel Fixer in construction projects.

Ability to read and interpret structural and reinforcement drawings.

Good knowledge of reinforcement techniques and construction procedures.

Familiarity with steel cutting and bending equipment.
