Job Description
Overview:
The Senior Mines Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the mining operations at our site in Ghana. This includes strategic planning, safety management, workforce management, and ensuring compliance with both national and international mining regulations. The role requires a strong focus on sustainable practices and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
– Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement mining operations strategy aligned with company goals.
– Safety Management: Ensure the highest safety standards are implemented and maintained, promoting a culture of safety among all employees and contractors.
– Operational Management: Oversee daily mining operations, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
– Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with Ghanaian and international mining laws and regulations.
– Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for mining operations, ensuring cost-effective practices.
– Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with government bodies, local communities, and other stakeholders.
– Sustainability Practices: Implement practices that promote environmental responsibility and sustainability in mining operations.
– Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of mining professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Requirements:
Education & Certification:
– Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
– Professional certification in mining (e.g., Certified Mining Engineer) and membership with relevant bodies such as the Ghana Institution of Engineers is advantageous.
Experience:
– Minimum of 10 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
– Proven track record of successful project management and operational leadership in mining.
Skills & Competencies:
– Strong leadership and people management skills.
– Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
– In-depth knowledge of mining regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental policies in Ghana.
– Financial acumen with experience managing large budgets.
– Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Certifications:
– Familiarity with international mining certifications and standards, such as ISO 14001 for environmental management, is beneficial.
– Possession of health and safety certifications relevant to mining operations. Mineral Commission Certified
Other:
– Willingness to work in remote locations.
– Flexibility to travel as required for meeting corporate objectives.
