Job Description

Job Purpose

A reputable company seeks a skilled mechanic whose primary purpose is to perform mechanical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on equipment and machinery across the gold room, elution, carbon regeneration kiln, smelting, and acid wash areas, ensuring efficient and safe operation of all processes involved in gold extraction and refining.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on heavy equipment in assigned areas, including conveyors, pumps, kilns, and smelting furnaces.
• Conduct scheduled and preventive maintenance to minimize breakdowns and optimize machinery performance.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components of elution, smelting, carbon regeneration, and acid wash systems.
• Assist in the installation, commissioning, and calibration of new machinery and equipment.
• Ensure that all mechanical work complies with safety, environmental, and company standards.
• Collaborate with process operators and engineers to identify mechanical faults and improve equipment efficiency.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation related to repairs and inspections.

• Participate in continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives related to equipment maintenance and reliability.
• Support emergency repairs and respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize production downtime.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

Minimum qualification

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of mechanical trade certification or technical diploma preferred.
• Valid certification in mechanical maintenance or related industrial qualification is an advantage

Experience

• At least 3-5 years’ practical experience in mechanical maintenance in the mining, metallurgical, or heavy industrial sectors.
• Experience working with gold processing machinery including elution plants, smelting furnaces, carbon kilns, and acid wash systems.
• Proven mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills on heavy-duty processing equipment.

Knowledge (In-depth)

• Thorough understanding of gold processing operations and equipment, including smelting and refining processes.
• Deep knowledge of carbon regeneration kiln mechanics and thermal processes.
• Familiarity with elution system design, operation, and associated mechanical components.
• Understanding of smelting furnace mechanics and refractory maintenance.
• Awareness of safety practices, environmental regulations, and chemical handling procedures relevant to metallurgical processing.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and heavy machinery components.

Skills

• Strong mechanical repair and maintenance skills, including welding, fitting, and alignment.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Competent in the use of relevant hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Effective problem-solving, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
• Good communication skills for interacting with multidisciplinary teams.
