Job Description
The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring financial stability, compliance, and strategic growth. This role provides leadership in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and risk management, while supporting senior management in decision-making with accurate and timely financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy & Planning
• Develop and implement the organization’s financial strategy in line with overall business goals.
• Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
• Provide financial guidance to executive leadership to support strategic decisions.
• Analyze market trends, economic factors, and business performance to identify opportunities and risks. - Budgeting & Forecasting
• Oversee the preparation of annual budgets across all departments.
• Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis reports.
• Recommend corrective actions to address deviations from budget.
• Ensure cost-efficient allocation of resources. - Financial Reporting
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP, etc.).
• Present financial performance to the CEO, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
• Oversee management accounts and financial statements. - Cash Flow & Treasury Management
• Manage cash flow to ensure the organization meets its financial obligations.
• Oversee banking relationships and negotiate favorable terms.
• Implement effective treasury and liquidity management strategies.
• Monitor investment activities and ensure effective capital allocation. - Compliance & Audit
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, tax laws, and financial controls.
• Coordinate internal and external audits.
• Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Mitigate financial risks through robust governance systems. - Risk Management
• Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Lead risk assessment processes involving credit, liquidity, market, and operational risks.
• Monitor insurance policies and ensure adequate coverage. - Leadership & Team Management
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
• Establish performance goals and conduct evaluations.
• Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with other departments to support financial literacy and operations. - Operational Finance Oversight
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
• Ensure accurate bookkeeping and efficient financial operations.
• Implement financial systems and software improvements for efficiency.
• Oversee procurement policies and spending controls. - Stakeholder Engagement
• Engage with external partners such as auditors, banks, tax authorities, and investors.
• Represent the finance department in management and board meetings.
• Communicate complex financial information in a clear, actionable manner.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (required).
• Master’s degree (MBA/MSc in Finance) is an advantage.
• Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or CA (highly preferred).
• Minimum 7–10 years of experience in finance, accounting, or related roles.
• Previous experience in a senior finance or managerial position.
