JOB SUMMARY
A Greasing Mechanic is responsible for the lubrication, preventive maintenance, and inspection of machinery, vehicles, and heavy equipment to ensure smooth operation and prevent mechanical failures. The role involves applying grease, oil, and other lubricants to moving parts, checking equipment conditions, and assisting in basic mechanical maintenance activities. The Greasing Mechanic plays an important role in extending the lifespan of equipment and minimizing downtime in construction, mining, and industrial operations.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
1. Equipment Lubrication
- Apply grease, oil, and other lubricants to moving parts of machinery and equipment.
- Lubricate bearings, joints, gears, pins, bushings, and hydraulic components.
- Follow lubrication schedules and manufacturer recommendations for equipment maintenance.
- Use manual and automatic lubrication systems to ensure proper lubrication.
2. Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct routine lubrication services as part of preventive maintenance programs.
- Check lubrication levels and refill oils and greases when required.
- Inspect equipment for signs of wear, overheating, or lubrication failure.
- Report potential mechanical problems to the maintenance supervisor or mechanic.
3. Equipment Inspection
- Perform visual inspections of equipment during lubrication activities.
- Check components such as hoses, fittings, seals, bolts, and mechanical parts for damage or leaks.
- Identify abnormal noises, vibrations, or overheating during operation.
- Report faulty parts that require repair or replacement.
4. Maintenance Support
- Assist mechanics and technicians with minor repairs and maintenance work.
- Help in replacing filters, tightening bolts, and performing basic mechanical tasks.
- Support equipment servicing activities in workshops or on-site locations.
5. Lubrication Equipment Operation
- Operate grease guns, lubrication pumps, oil dispensers, and other lubrication tools.
- Maintain lubrication equipment and ensure it is clean and in good working condition.
- Safely store lubricants, oils, and related materials.
6. Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain lubrication logs and maintenance records for equipment.
- Record types and quantities of lubricants used.
- Report completed tasks and maintenance activities to supervisors.
- Update preventive maintenance schedules when lubrication tasks are completed.
7. Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Follow workplace safety procedures during maintenance and lubrication tasks.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing.
- Properly handle and dispose of used oil, grease, and other hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.
8. Equipment Care and Housekeeping
- Ensure lubrication points are clean before applying grease or oil.
- Keep maintenance tools, hoses, and equipment in good condition.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the workshop or equipment maintenance areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic knowledge of heavy machinery and mechanical systems.
Understanding of lubrication techniques and maintenance procedures.
Ability to identify equipment wear and lubrication problems.
Good attention to detail and inspection skills.
Ability to work independently and follow maintenance schedules.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in equipment lubrication, mechanical maintenance, or similar role.
- Experience working with heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, trucks, and generators is an advantage.
