JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Gas Cutter to join our team in the manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing cutting and welding operations using gas cutting equipment to fabricate, repair, or dismantle metal structures and various components. This role requires a strong understanding of safety protocols, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gas Cutting Operations:
- Operate gas cutting equipment to cut metal plates, pipes, and structural components according to specifications and drawings.
- Adjust gas pressure and oxygen levels to achieve optimal cutting performance.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering drawings to determine cutting requirements.
- Preparation and Setup:
- Prepare work areas by ensuring that the cutting equipment and tools are in good working condition.
- Set up and safeguard the work site to eliminate hazards and ensure workers’ safety.
- Utilize proper rigging techniques for securing and supporting materials during cutting operations.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety regulations and guidelines related to gas cutting, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as goggles, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing.
- Conduct risk assessments and take appropriate measures to mitigate hazards in the work environment.
- Participate in safety training and emergency preparedness drills.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Regularly inspect gas cutting equipment and tools for wear and damage, performing routine maintenance as needed.
- Report any malfunctions or safety concerns to management immediately.
- Keep work areas clean and organized to maintain a safe work environment.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that cutting operations meet quality standards and project specifications.
- Conduct final inspections of cut materials to verify dimensions, angles, and surface quality.
- Make adjustments as needed to achieve optimal results.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other team members, including welders, fabricators, and project managers, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Communicate effectively regarding project updates, material requirements, and any challenges encountered during cutting operations.
- Collaborate in a team-oriented environment, assisting as needed.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, time spent on tasks, and any noteworthy issues encountered during operations.
- Participate in project debriefs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in welding or metalworking is a plus.
- Experience:
- Previous experience as a gas cutter or in a related field preferred.
- Familiarity with various materials, including steel, aluminum, and other metals.
- Skills:
- Proficient in the operation of oxy-fuel cutting equipment and related tools.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safety practices in gas cutting and metal fabrication.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Relevant certifications in gas cutting or welding (e.g., OSHA, NCCER) may be required.
