Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
A Fabricator is responsible for cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining metal or other materials to create structural components and products according to engineering drawings and specifications. The Fabricator uses a variety of tools, machinery, and welding techniques to produce high-quality fabricated parts used in construction, industrial equipment, infrastructure, and manufacturing projects. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Material Preparation
- Measure, mark, and cut raw materials such as steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals according to specifications.
- Select appropriate materials based on project requirements and engineering drawings.
- Inspect materials for defects or damage before fabrication.
2. Fabrication and Assembly
- Fabricate metal components by cutting, bending, drilling, grinding, and shaping materials.
- Assemble fabricated components into complete structures such as frames, supports, pipes, or machinery parts.
- Align and fit parts accurately before welding or fastening.
3. Welding and Joining
- Perform welding tasks using methods such as MIG, TIG, Arc welding, or Gas welding where required.
- Join metal components using bolts, rivets, welding, or other fastening methods.
- Ensure welds and joints meet quality and strength standards.
4. Reading Technical Drawings
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication diagrams.
- Follow dimensions, tolerances, and technical instructions accurately.
- Verify measurements and ensure fabricated parts meet design specifications.
5. Machine and Tool Operation
- Operate fabrication equipment such as:
- Cutting machines
- Grinding machines
- Drill presses
- Bending machines
- Welding machines
- Plasma or gas cutting tools
- Maintain tools and machinery in good working condition.
6. Quality Control
- Inspect fabricated parts to ensure accuracy, proper alignment, and quality of work.
- Identify and correct fabrication errors before final assembly.
- Ensure finished products meet engineering and safety standards.
7. Safety Compliance
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures during fabrication activities.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety goggles, helmets, and protective clothing.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or technical certificate in:
Metal Fabrication
Mechanical Engineering Technology
Welding and Fabrication
Industrial Technology or related field.
Experience
2–5 years of experience in metal fabrication or related industrial work.
Experience in construction, steel structures, or manufacturing environments is an advantage.
