Job Description

Job Overview:

The Driller is responsible for operating and maintaining drilling equipment to extract minerals, oil, gas, or other geological resources from the earth. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, effective communication with the crew, and comprehensive knowledge of drilling techniques and equipment. The Driller will ensure operations are efficient and monitor for potential issues that may arise during drilling.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Operation

  1. Operate various drilling machines and tools, including rotary drills, cable tool rigs, or directional drilling systems.

2 . Set up, maintain, and dismantle drilling equipment in compliance with safety and operational guidelines

Drilling Operations

  1. Perform drilling operations including drilling, well completion, casing, and wellbore cleaning.
  2. Monitor drilling parameters such as weight on bit, rotary speed, and mud properties to ensure optimal performance.

3. Adjust drilling parameters based on geological conditions and ensure adherence to project specifications

Safety Compliance

  1. Follow all safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks of accidents and injuries on the drilling site.
  2. Conduct pre-drill inspections and routine checks of equipment to identify and rectify any safety hazards.

3. Participate in safety training sessions and contribute to the development of safety practices on-site

Data Collection and Reporting:

  1. Record drilling depths, times, and materials encountered during drilling in daily logs and reports.
  2. Collect samples of geological materials for analysis and assist in determining the nature of the subsurface materials.

3. Communicate relevant information to supervisors and colleagues about drilling progress and any encountered difficulties

Team Coordination

  1. Work closely with the drilling crew and other specialized personnel such as geologists, engineers, and safety officers.
  2. Assist in training and supervising junior drillers and crew members as needed.

3. Collaborate with other teams on site to ensure effective workflow and communication.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  1. Perform routine maintenance on drilling equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and minor repairs.
  2. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with drilling machinery and coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs.
  3. Ensure equipment is stored properly when not in use to maintain its condition and longevity.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in drilling operations or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience in drilling operations or a related field preferred; on-the-job training may be provided.
  • Certifications: Relevant safety certifications (e.g., H2S Awareness, First Aid, etc.) and possible drilling-related certifications, depending on the industry.

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Technical Skills:
  1. Proficiency in operating drilling machinery and understanding of drilling techniques.
  2. Familiarity with geological principles and the ability to interpret drilling data and logs.

Safety Awareness

  1. Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in the drilling industry.
  2. Ability to recognize hazards and take appropriate preventive measures.

Communication Skills:

  1. Clear communication skills to relay information effectively to team members and supervisors.
  2. Ability to maintain good working relationships and foster teamwork.
