Job Description

Job Summary

A reputable company is seeking the services of an experienced accountant who will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory standards, preparing financial reports, and providing management with financial insights to support decision-making. The role involves handling budgeting, taxation, auditing, and other financial management duties to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Record Management

                •             Maintain and update the general ledger by posting and verifying financial transactions.

                •             Ensure all financial records are accurate, complete, and up to date.

                •             Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow statements regularly.

                •             Manage journal entries and adjust accounts when necessary.

2. Financial Reporting and Analysis

                •             Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement).

                •             Analyze financial data and trends to support budgeting and forecasting.

                •             Provide periodic reports to management on financial performance, expenditures, and profitability.

                •             Assist in developing financial strategies to improve business efficiency.

3. Accounts Payable and Receivable

                •             Process supplier invoices, verify payment requests, and ensure timely disbursement of funds.

                •             Generate and issue invoices to customers and clients.

                •             Track receivables, manage collections, and resolve outstanding balances.

                •             Reconcile vendor and customer accounts.

4. Budgeting and Cost Control

                •             Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.

                •             Monitor budget performance and highlight variances for corrective action.

                •             Support management in cost control and reduction initiatives.

5. Taxation and Compliance

                •             Prepare and file company tax returns (corporate, PAYE, VAT, etc.) in line with national tax regulations.

                •             Ensure compliance with financial and legal requirements.

                •             Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and government agencies.

6. Auditing and Internal Controls

                •             Support both internal and external audit processes.

                •             Maintain strong internal control systems to safeguard company assets.

                •             Identify and mitigate financial risks.

                •             Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems and procedures.

7. Payroll Administration (if applicable)

                •             Prepare and process employee payroll accurately and on time.

                •             Calculate deductions, taxes, and benefits contributions.

                •             Maintain confidential payroll records and ensure compliance with labour laws.

Skills and Competencies:

•             Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards (IFRS/GAAP), and regulations.

                •             Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Tally, or ERP systems.

                •             Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.

                •             High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational ability.

                •             Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.

                •             Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  

•             Integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in handling sensitive data.

Educational Qualifications:

•             Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

                •             Professional certification such as ICAG, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent (preferred).

Experience Required:

                •             Minimum of 2–5 years of practical experience in accounting, finance, or auditing.

                •             Experience in budget preparation, tax filing, and financial reporting is an asset.
