Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

An AC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The technician ensures that cooling systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with technical standards. The role involves diagnosing faults, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring proper functioning of compressors, condensers, evaporators, and other HVAC components.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation of Air Conditioning Systems

• Install air conditioning units including split systems, central air conditioning systems, and packaged units.
• Install and connect refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, thermostats, and drainage systems.
• Mount indoor and outdoor AC units according to manufacturer and engineering specifications.
• Ensure proper insulation and sealing of ducts and refrigerant lines.

2. Maintenance and Servicing

• Perform routine maintenance and servicing of air conditioning and HVAC systems.
• Clean air filters, condensers, evaporator coils, and drainage lines.
• Check refrigerant levels and refill where necessary.
• Inspect compressors, motors, and fans for proper operation.
• Conduct preventive maintenance to extend equipment life.

3. Troubleshooting and Repairs

• Diagnose faults in AC systems using appropriate testing tools.
• Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, thermostats, fans, capacitors, and control systems.
• Fix refrigerant leaks and recharge systems as required.
• Resolve issues related to poor cooling, unusual noise, or system failure.

4. Electrical and Mechanical Work

• Perform electrical connections and repairs related to air conditioning units.
• Test electrical circuits, switches, and control panels.
• Ensure safe and proper functioning of electrical components within HVAC systems.

5. System Testing and Commissioning

• Test newly installed systems to ensure proper cooling performance.
• Adjust system settings to achieve optimal efficiency and temperature control.
• Ensure systems meet operational and safety standards before handover.

6. Safety Compliance

• Follow workplace health and safety regulations while performing installation and maintenance work.
• Handle refrigerants and chemicals safely according to environmental guidelines.
• Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during work.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in:
  • HVAC Technology
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Technical or Vocational Training in Air Conditioning Systems.
