Job Description

An artisan is a skilled manual worker or craftsperson who creates handmade, custom, or functional and trade labour (such as electrical, plumbing, machining, or welding work).

Artisan Responsibilities & Duties

• Design and create handmade products using various materials such as wood, metal, clay, and fabric
• Develop and refine techniques to enhance the quality and uniqueness of products
• Collaborate with clients to customize and tailor designs to specific needs
• Maintain and operate craft-specific tools and equipment
• Ensure all products meet the required standards of quality and safety
• Keep up-to-date with market trends and incorporate new ideas into designs
• Manage inventory of materials and finished products
• Market and sell products at craft fairs, online platforms, and retail spaces
• Document and archive design processes and completed works
• Provide training and guidance to apprentices or junior artisans
• Continually improve skills through workshops, courses, and practice
• Work within timeframes and budgets to meet client expectations
• Previous experience in a craft-related field
• Strong artistic and creative abilities
• Familiarity with traditional and modern crafting techniques
• Portfolio showcasing previous work
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Effective communication skills
• Understanding of market trends in the artisan industry

Education & Certification: Completion of a formal trade test, apprenticeship, or technical/TVET college qualification in a relevant field (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, machining

 SKILLS;

 · Ideal candidate will have a range of props artisan skills including, but not limited to; cabinetry, scene painting, hand and machine stitching, soft good construction, floral arranging, paper goods graphics and construction, fine carpentry woodworking and furniture construction, MIG welding, and scenery carpentry.  

Strong organizational skills. Positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative manner.
