Job Description
The Translator/ Interpreter provides consecutive and written translation between Chinese (Mandarin) and English to support engineering, safety, procurement and management activities on the refinery project.
Key responsibilities
- Provide accurate real-time (consecutive) interpretation during technical meetings, site briefings, toolbox talks, safety inductions and negotiations.
- Translate written material; engineering drawings notes, technical specifications, method statements, reports, emails, contracts and correspondence, between Chinese and English.
- Act as a cultural liaison, bridging communication between the Chinese technical team and Ghanaian staff, contractors and local stakeholders.
- Support Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) communication to ensure safety instructions are clearly understood by all parties on site.
- Maintain strict confidentiality over commercial, technical and personnel information.
- Build and maintain a project glossary of technical and mining/refinery terminology in both languages.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- A good first degree from a University in Ghana or a comparable accredited institution (Modern Languages/Chinese Studies, Translation, Engineering or a related discipline).
- Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and English. An HSK (Hanyu Shipping Kaoshi) certificate at Level 4–6, or study/residence experience in China, is a strong advantage.
- Strong communication, coordination and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a demanding industrial site environment.
- Willingness to be based at the refinery site and to work flexible hours, including shift or rotation arrangements, as project demands require.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office; familiarity with translation tools an advantage).
