Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
A Pulpit Operator is responsible for overseeing and controlling machinery and processes involved in pulp production within a manufacturing or processing plant (commonly in paper, wood, or related industries). The role requires monitoring equipment, ensuring efficient operation, and maintaining product quality while adhering to safety and environmental standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate and control pulping machinery and related equipment from a central control panel (pulpit).
Monitor process parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and chemical levels.
Adjust controls to maintain optimal production efficiency and product quality.
Start up and shut down equipment according to standard operating procedures.
Conduct routine checks to ensure machinery is functioning properly.
Identify and troubleshoot operational issues or abnormalities in the system.
Coordinate with field operators and maintenance teams to resolve equipment faults.
Maintain accurate records of production data, system performance, and incidents.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
Perform basic maintenance tasks and assist in scheduled equipment servicing.
Respond quickly to alarms, emergencies, or system failures.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Strong understanding of industrial processes, especially pulp or paper production.
Ability to operate computerized control systems and monitoring software.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and ability to detect irregularities in operations.
Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members.
Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
Knowledge of safety standards and procedures in industrial environments.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement).
Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial operations is preferred.
Certification in plant operations or related fields is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE
Prior experience in a manufacturing or processing plant is often required.
Experience in pulp and paper operations is highly desirable.
On-the-job training is typically provided for specific equipment and systems.
