JOB SUMMARY
The Cargo Driver is responsible for transporting goods and materials from one location to another, ensuring timely and safe delivery. This role requires a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and knowledge of vehicle operation, logistics, and cargo handling. Drivers must adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while providing excellent customer service during all deliveries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transportation:
- Operate cargo vehicles, including trucks and vans, to transport goods efficiently to designated locations.
- Plan and execute routes based on delivery schedules, traffic patterns, and road conditions to optimize travel times.
- Loading and Unloading:
- Load and secure cargo in the vehicle, ensuring that items are properly balanced and that weight limits are observed.
- Unload cargo at delivery sites, taking care to handle materials safely and as per customer requirements.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the cargo vehicle to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
- Report any mechanical issues, accidents, or damages to the vehicle to supervisors promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cargo area and the vehicle’s interior.
- Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain accurate delivery and shipping documentation, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inventory lists.
- Collect signatures and confirmation from recipients upon delivery and ensure proper record-keeping.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies to provide a safe driving environment.
- Use appropriate safety equipment, including seat belts and safety gear as required by law.
- Customer Service:
- Interact professionally with clients and customers, ensuring that any inquiries or issues are addressed promptly and courteously.
- Provide accurate information regarding delivery times and cargo status as needed.
- Problem Solving:
- Handle unforeseen issues, such as delays, traffic incidents, or cargo issues, efficiently and professionally.
- Communicate with dispatchers and other team members to resolve any delivery problems or to report on cargo status.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with logistics and warehouse personnel to ensure efficient operations and seamless loading/unloading processes.
- Assist team members as needed during peak delivery times or when additional support is required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics or transportation is a plus.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience driving cargo vehicles or in a related logistics role is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong navigational skills with the ability to use GPS and maps effectively.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet delivery schedules.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations regarding driving and cargo transport.
- Good communication skills for interaction with clients and team members.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, loading, and unloading heavy cargo.
