Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

A Draftsman is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and schematics for construction, mechanical, architectural, or engineering projects. The Draftsman works closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to translate concepts, sketches, and specifications into accurate drawings that guide fabrication, construction, or installation. This role requires proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, attention to detail, and knowledge of relevant industry standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Preparation of Technical Drawings

  • Prepare detailed drawings, plans, layouts, and schematics using CAD software or manual drafting techniques.
  • Develop drawings for civil structures, mechanical components, architectural layouts, or electrical systems according to project requirements.
  • Ensure drawings are clear, precise, and adhere to engineering or architectural standards.

2. Collaboration with Engineers and Architects

  • Interpret sketches, notes, and specifications from engineers or architects.
  • Participate in design discussions and provide input on drawing feasibility and accuracy.
  • Modify or revise drawings based on feedback from project teams or clients.

3. Design and Drafting

  • Convert concepts, blueprints, and rough sketches into fully dimensioned technical drawings.
  • Prepare plans, sections, elevations, and detail drawings as required.
  • Use standard symbols, scales, and drawing conventions to maintain consistency.

4. Document Management

  • Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and design files.
  • Archive old and revised drawings for future reference.
  • Ensure all drawings are labeled, dated, and properly referenced.

5. Quality Control

  • Check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Verify dimensions, material specifications, and annotations are correct.
  • Identify and correct errors or inconsistencies in drawings before submission.

6. Use of CAD and Drafting Tools

  • Utilize software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or other CAD tools for 2D and 3D drafting.
  • Apply standard templates, layers, and blocks to maintain drawing consistency.
  • Produce plots, layouts, and technical documents suitable for construction or fabrication.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Architecture
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Drafting or CAD Technology.

EXPERIENCES

1–4 years of experience as a Draftsman or CAD Technician.

Experience in construction, manufacturing, mechanical design, or architectural projects is preferred.
