JOB SUMMARY
The Trailer Driver is responsible for transporting goods and materials safely and efficiently using heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The role involves long-distance and local deliveries, ensuring the timely transportation of cargo while complying with road safety regulations and company policies. The Trailer Driver must maintain vehicle condition, ensure proper cargo handling, and complete all necessary transportation documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Transportation and Delivery
- Operate heavy-duty trucks and trailers to transport goods to assigned destinations safely and on schedule.
- Plan and follow efficient routes for the delivery and pickup of cargo.
- Ensure timely delivery while adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Communicate with dispatchers or logistics coordinators regarding delivery schedules and any delays.
Vehicle Operation and Maintenance
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer.
- Ensure the vehicle is in good working condition before starting trips.
- Report mechanical issues, accidents, or damage immediately to the fleet supervisor.
- Maintain the cleanliness and proper condition of the truck and trailer.
Cargo Handling and Safety
- Ensure cargo is properly loaded, secured, and balanced to prevent damage during transit.
- Verify shipment details, including weight, quantity, and delivery instructions.
- Monitor cargo during transit to ensure safety and integrity.
- Follow proper procedures for loading and unloading goods.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and hours worked.
- Complete delivery notes, logbooks, inspection reports, and other transportation documentation.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, road safety laws, and company policies.
- Carry all required licenses, permits, and insurance documents during trips.
Communication and Coordination
- Coordinate with warehouse staff during loading and unloading operations.
- Maintain communication with dispatchers regarding delivery status, delays, or route changes.
- Provide professional customer service when interacting with clients at delivery locations.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license appropriate for heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience driving articulated trucks or trailers.
- Good knowledge of road safety regulations and transport laws.
- Experience with long-distance and interstate deliveries is an advantage.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of trucks and trailers is preferred.
