Overview

We are looking for an experienced and driven Mine Manager to oversee all mining operations and manage staff in an efficient and safe manner. The Mine Manager will be responsible for the entire mining process, from planning and design to operations and production, ensuring adherence to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise in mining operations, and a commitment to sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operations Management:
    1. Direct and oversee day-to-day mining operations, ensuring the efficient and safe extraction of resources.
    1. Develop, implement, and optimise operational policies and procedures to improve productivity and profitability.
    1. Ensure that production targets are met within budget constraints while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
  2. Strategic Planning:
    1. Collaborate with upper management to develop long-term strategic plans to enhance mining operations and resource extraction.
    1. Conduct geological assessments and feasibility studies to identify new mining opportunities and evaluate existing operations for potential improvements.
    1. Oversee the development and execution of mining plans, including workforce planning, equipment utilization, and production scheduling.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    1. Lead safety initiatives and programs, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    1. Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations; implement corrective actions as necessary.
    1. Foster a safety-first culture among all employees, providing training and resources to promote safe practices in the workplace.
  4. Team Leadership:
    1. Recruit, train, and supervise a diverse team of mining professionals, ensuring effective performance management and development.
    1. Enhance team capabilities through mentoring, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
    1. Promote collaboration and communication among various departments to optimize operational performance.
  5. Budget and Financial Management:
    1. Prepare, monitor, and manage annual budgets for mining operations, ensuring effective allocation of financial resources.
    1. Track financial performance against budget, analyzing variances, and reporting findings to senior management.
    1. Conduct cost-benefit analysis on projects and recommend solutions to improve profitability.
  6. Environmental Sustainability:
    1. Develop and implement environmental management and sustainability plans, minimizing the environmental impact of mining operations.
    1. Collaborate with environmental specialists to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to develop land rehabilitation plans.
    1. Monitor and report on environmental performance indicators and advise on best practices for sustainable mining.
  7. Stakeholder Relations:
    1. Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and regulatory bodies.
    1. Represent the mining operation at public meetings and present findings to stakeholders as necessary.
    1. Address community concerns and work towards maintaining a social license to operate.
  8. Technical Expertise:
    1. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance mining methodologies and operations.
    1. Evaluate and implement innovative technologies that improve safety, efficiency, and environmental performance in mining operations.
    1. Collaborate with technical teams to analyze data, make informed decisions, and leverage technology for operational improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mining operations, with 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of mining regulations, operations, and safety practices.
  • Proven leadership ability, with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in mining software and tools, with budget management and financial analysis.
  • Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable mining practices.

Work Environment:

  • The role may involve working in outdoor and underground settings.
  • Must be willing to travel to various mining sites and work extended hours, as necessary.
