Job Summary
The Logistics, Inventory, and Supply Chain Governance Manager oversees the end-to-end movement of materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost optimization within the mining operation. This role ensures alignment with Ghana’s Minerals Commission regulations, Local Content policies, Chinese corporate standards, and international logistics and inventory management best practices.
The manager plays a strategic role in logistics coordination, inventory optimization, supplier governance, and risk management to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Logistics & Transport Management
- Oversee inbound and outbound logistics operations, ensuring efficient movement of mining equipment, raw materials, and spare parts.
- Manage importation, customs clearance, and freight forwarding processes, ensuring compliance with Ghana Customs (GRA) and Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) regulations.
- Work closely with Chinese and Ghanaian suppliers and transporters to ensure seamless logistics flow and reduce lead times.
- Develop cost-efficient transportation models (sea, land, and air freight) to optimize delivery timelines.
- Implement logistics risk management strategies, ensuring contingency plans for supply disruptions.
2. Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Develop and implement inventory control systems to optimize mining consumables, spare parts, and raw materials stock levels.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and inventory security at all warehouses and mining sites.
- Reduce stock obsolescence and wastage through effective inventory tracking, demand forecasting, and periodic audits.
- Work with maintenance and procurement teams to ensure the availability of critical mining equipment and spare parts.
- Implement warehouse digitization using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or Kingdee).
3. Supply Chain Governance & Compliance
- Ensure logistics, inventory, and supply chain operations comply with Ghana’s Minerals and Mining Act, Local Content Policies, and Environmental & Safety Regulations.
- Monitor and enforce supplier governance policies, ensuring compliance with ethical procurement practices, anti-corruption laws, and corporate policies.
- Work closely with government agencies (Minerals Commission, GRA, EPA) and Chinese corporate auditors to ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Conduct supply chain risk assessments and implement control measures to mitigate fraud, theft, and inefficiencies.
4. Supplier Performance & Contract Management
- Develop supplier evaluation frameworks to measure performance in logistics and inventory management.
- Ensure that 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) providers, transporters, and warehouse operators meet contract requirements and KPIs.
- Negotiate cost-effective logistics and warehousing contracts to optimize the mining firm’s supply chain.
- Work with the Contracts Manager to ensure supplier agreements meet Ghanaian and Chinese best practices.
5. Cost Optimization & Efficiency Improvement
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives in transportation, warehousing, and inventory management.
- Optimize freight and storage costs through route planning, bulk purchasing, and improved supplier negotiations.
- Reduce logistics downtime and supply chain disruptions through real-time tracking and forecasting models.
- Implement LEAN and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance supply chain efficiency.
6. Digital Transformation & Reporting
- Implement ERP and digital tracking systems to improve real-time visibility of inventory and logistics data.
- Ensure the integration of Chinese and Ghanaian reporting standards in supply chain data management.
- Generate monthly and quarterly reportson logistics performance, inventory levels, and compliance status for the Supply Chain Manager.
- Leverage AI-powered analytics and predictive modeling to improve supply chain decision-making.
