Job Description

Reports To: Supply Chain Manager

Location: On-Site

Job Summary

The Procurement Manager oversees the acquisition of goods, equipment, and services necessary for mining operations. This role ensures cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality and compliance with company policies and Ghanaian regulatory requirements. The Procurement Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders and suppliers to optimize supply chain efficiency and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the company’s operational and financial objectives.
  • Conduct market research to identify cost-effective and high-quality suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain long-term strategic relationships with key vendors and service providers.

Procurement Operations & Vendor Management

  • Oversee procuring machinery, spare parts, fuel, lubricants, explosives, and other critical materials.
  • Ensure the selection of reliable suppliers through competitive bidding and due diligence.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers to optimize cost and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor supplier performance, resolve disputes, and ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Maintain a database of pre-qualified suppliers in line with company standards.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure procurement processes comply with Ghanaian laws, industry best practices, and internal policies.
  • Conduct periodic audits to assess procurement efficiency and mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with legal and finance teams to ensure compliance with contracts, import regulations, and tax requirements.
  • Promote ethical procurement practices, transparency, and anti-corruption measures.

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Develop and manage procurement budgets, ensuring cost control without compromising quality.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through supplier negotiations and alternative sourcing strategies.
  • Analyze procurement expenditures and provide reports to senior management for decision-making.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and finance teams to forecast procurement needs.
  • Ensure timely delivery of critical supplies to avoid operational downtime.
  • Lead procurement-related training sessions to ensure compliance and efficiency within teams.

Technology & Process Improvement

  • Implement procurement best practices and digital tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Optimize inventory levels and streamline procurement workflows using ERP systems.
  • Track procurement KPIs and suggest process improvements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CIPS) will be an advantage.
