Position Overview:
The External Relations Manager will play a crucial role in managing and enhancing the reputation and relationships of the mining company with external stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, the media, and industry partners. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with local and international standards while promoting sustainable development and fostering a positive public image.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Stakeholder Engagement:
– Develop and implement strategies to engage with key stakeholders, including government entities, regulatory bodies, local communities, and industry partners.
– Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and manage the company’s public image.
2. Policy and Compliance:
– Ensure adherence to local and international regulations and standards.
– Liaise with government agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with mining laws and policies.
3. Community Relations:
– Develop and execute community engagement programs to foster strong relationships with local communities.
– Address community concerns and work towards mutually beneficial outcomes.
4. Corporate Communication:
– Oversee and manage the company’s external communications strategies, including press releases, speeches, and public statements.
– Coordinate with the internal communications team to ensure consistency in messaging.
5. Crisis Management:
– Develop and implement crisis communication strategies to effectively manage and respond to incidents that could affect the company’s reputation.
6. Advocacy and Representation:
– Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and meetings with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
– Advocate for company interests in policy discussions and public forums.
Qualifications and Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree would be an advantage.
– Minimum of 7 years of experience in external relations, public affairs, or a similar role, preferably within the mining or resource extraction industries.
– Strong understanding of Ghanaian regulatory frameworks and familiarity with international mining regulations and standards.
– Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and community relations in Ghana.
– Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans.
– Fluency in English; proficiency in local languages is an advantage.
– Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
– Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Certifications:
– Certification in Public Relations (CPR) or a related professional accreditation.
– Familiarity with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards as they pertain to the mining industry. Familiarity with the Mineral Commission’s policies, including Corporate Social Responsibility management
