Job Description:
- Exploration and Data Analysis:
– Conduct field studies to identify and assess the composition, structure, and history of the Earth’s crust.
– Use a variety of methods, including physical sampling, aerial surveys, and satellite imagery to collect geological data.
– Analyze data and produce detailed maps and reports to assess mineral deposits.
2. Resource Estimation:
– Estimate the volume and grade of ore deposits by interpreting data from drill cores, assays, and samples.
– Provide accurate resource estimates to predict the economic viability of mining projects.
3. Fieldwork and Sampling:
– Plan and execute fieldwork for site investigation, including drilling campaigns and sample collection.
– Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during field operations.
4. Collaboration and Reporting:
– Collaborate with other geologists, engineers, and stakeholders to develop exploration strategies and plans.
– Prepare and present technical reports, maps, and geological cross-sections to support decision-making.
5. Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:
– Ensure that all exploration and mining activities comply with local regulations, including those set by the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
– Participate in environmental impact assessments and contribute to sustainable mining practices.
Requirements:
1. Educational Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
– Membership or eligibility for membership with a recognized geological society or institution is advantageous.
2. Experience:
– Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mineral exploration or mining geology.
– Experience in the West African region, particularly Ghana, is highly desirable.
3. Skills and Competencies:
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Proficiency in geological software and tools, such as GIS, AutoCAD, or similar.
– Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote and challenging environments.
4. Certifications:
– Certification from the Minerals Commission of Ghana is an added advantage and may be required for certain responsibilities.
– Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively within Ghana.
5. Personal Attributes:
– High attention to detail and accuracy.
– Strong ethical standards and commitment to professional integrity.
– Willingness to engage in continuous professional development.
